6 speed retro brent or others
Im just curious, the 6 speed you guys are using , is the only one that fits the z3.. I ask since the z4 has one and the same motors 3.0 .. wouldnt one of those be easier to get ahold of? just curious since i have no idea about this subject

6 Speed Kit
It's certianly on the expensive side of things. I think it even beats Bimmerworld's price for euro 6-speeds.

Note that Zionsville's kit is not for our cars, and it includes all the parts needed to change over from automatic to manual.

ANY small 6 transmission will "fit." Its just a matter of making sure the flywheel and pressure plate will bolt up to the engine. This is pretty universal though.
Yes, the Z4/330iPP transmission will fit just fine. Its not as heavy duty as the transmissions in the M cars. But thats not that important to most folks. Heres the real problem, you have to buy a pressure plate, flywheel, and clutch from the Z4/330i to make it work. And there arent that many performance applications for that transmission. So if your die hard for a 6 speed, and you cant get the S6S-420, then I guess it will do. It would be fine for a 325 or a 328 E46. The flywheel and clutch should work.
Now, if you have an E36, its going to be cheaper to just get the S6S-420G, why? All the other crap to make it work. You will need the driveshaft, and shift linkage to be custom. As well as the slave cyllinder, and the cross brace. And there are more parts that really add up. Thats why the conversion kit is so expensive. It CAN be done. But why would you want to?
Now, the EVO E36M3 had/has the S6S-420G, as well as the E46 M3, as well as the M5, and the 540iPP. Now, dont get me wrong, these are all DIFFERENT transmissions/part numbers/housings.. But they are all called the S6S-420. So... I would estimate that its probably the same internals.. Or an evolution of them. The E46M3's input shaft is much larger (AKA 850csi) than the one in the E36M3. So to put that one in an E36, you have to swap the flywheel, clutch, TOB, and pressure plate.
So, if you have an E36 M3, or M coupe, or M roadster, the EVO tranny is going to be the cheapest one going, no matter what you do. Why? It bolts right up, you can use your existing flywheel/clutch combo, and it actually fits the housing, its VERY tight, but it does fit.

Anyways, at $2500 for pickup, anyone can have a 6 speed. Its in my garage. Get rid of it. Or tell juker to quit being a moron, and give me his insurance money for the broken transmission and I will let him have it. I am sure he can make a coffee table out of the broken one.

Someone else backed out on you?
