My chrome grill surrounds are cracked on my Z3. I just need the surrounds, not the whole grill (I have real chrome covered slats one the vertical grill slats already). Does anyone know if it is possible to just purchase the chrome plated plastic surrounds or does anyone make a suitable replacement? I have only found the part number to purchase the whole grill assembly. Has anyone changed to one of the blacked out Z3 grill and want to part with just the original chrome surround?

Michael | They are all one piece and are about $140 list from the dealer for a pair. I just replaced the ones on my '02 Coupe because they have 15K miles worth of pitting and one has a ding. If you are interested, I would sell you the old ones for like $40 and shipping...PM me. They are not perfect but may be better than what you have. Also, I am pretty sure that the '01 and '02 grills are a tad nicer.
Another option is the Hamann black out grills or the knock-off covers that you see on ebay but I prefer the chrome ones!

I guess it is kind of silly to replace ones with a crack for ones that are pitted though. I have the Chroma Design Chrome grill slats glued on top of the black plastic grill fins. I want to stick with the shiny chrome trim on my car. I don't think the blacked out grill would look good on an atlanta blue car with all the other additional chrome tidbits I have put on it (door handles and surrounds, Z8 washer jets, chrome lock pulls, etc...). I want to get an extra set of side mirrors and electroplate them in chrome someday (like how they look on the Z8).
How about this, anyone want the factory chrome edge grill pieces to upgrade from the black ones? I know some models came black (like mine originally) and others had a chrome edge to it. I can order the factory replacement set and split it up with someone who wants the inside grill piece as I only need the outer trim rings. Anyone?

Actually, they are in two pieces, and have to be separated to get the old ones out. The trick is to slide a piece of shim metal to lift the retainer (like a door latch) so you can pull the surround off the front and the slats out the back. You could use your "chromed" slats with the new chrome ring.

Where did you get them for that much? I called circle BMW and they told me $69.50 for each one! The part numbers they gave where 51138412 449 (Left) and 450 (Right).
I have the pieces separated already. All I need is the outer chrome covered surround. For a total of $50, I would just buy all new assemblies.
