Ok, now I bought the 1999 z3 coupe with 51,000. I bought it from a private seller so it is not under a BMW warranty. Should I purchase an extended warranty? If so, who from?

Well, virtually all of the third party warrnties aren't worth the paper they are printed on. There is a thread in the General section about a plan that some seem to think is the different one and may be worthwhile.
But out 2000 is out of warranty, and I am not worried.

I bought an '01 Z3 last September with 73K miles. Although I don't usually buy extended warranties on anything, I bought one with the Roadster due to the mileage. So far, I have not had any warranty work done on it. If I had it to do over, I would not buy the warranty.
