Dare I even ask ? Turning Power top into Manual

My Power top is giving me troubles, and so my question may be much more trouble than I dare attempt but can I disconnect the motorized part of the soft top and use it like it's a manual top until I can take it to the dealer to get it fixed ? Is this an insane idea ? Has anyone attempted this before ? I just want to enjoy the good driving weather while it's here and the Roadster is a whole different car with the top down. Thanks for any help

Not having a power top but I seem to recall that there is a disconnect in the trunk to uncouple the power top and use it as a manual.

Read the owners manual for the specific instructions. There is a T-Valve that you can turn on the hydraulic unit in the trunk so that you can operate the top manually. Hope this helps.

You could also disconnect the hydraulic strut that provides the oomph for the top going up and down. I did this in early 2003 when I was installing the HMS rollbar (the bracket on the driver's side interferes with the top of the ball on the strut) so the details are a little fuzzy, but it was fairly simple. It's located behind the driver's seat, close to the door opening. If I'm not mistaken, I had to remove some trim pieces to get at it.

The only other thing to do is pull the fuse that powers it.
