 Z4 2.5 is h-i-s-t-o-r-y... for MY 2006

Is this a :repost:?

Yes, unforunately, the 2.5 has been shelved for the foreseeable future.
As with the X3, perhaps they are consolidating to open up more 2.5 liter
powerplants ~ to have them available for other high-volume models
somewhere else??

Not surprising as when we were in Greer Mid-June, BMW was only producing 64 Z4s that day for worldwide distribution.

I think all of BMW's US models will get the 3.0L (maybe badged a 2.5, but really 3.0 displacement) and the new 3.0L engine (badged a 3.0). Maybe the 2.5's will be used in markets that demand more fuel efficient engines, and/or, maybe we'll see it on the 1er if it ever makes it here.

I think you're right, but what is surprising is that they are consolidating carlines
resulting in fewer offerings (less choice). No more X3 2.5, no more Z4 2.5.
It seems a bit peculiar...

YES... repost...

Your a couple weeks late...

... just playin'... we hit this in the MZ roadster thread... as they move the E90 power plant into the Z4 line (starting production Jan'06)... and probably into the X3 line later next year... the 2.5 is gone. We will see a Z4 3.0... a 3.0iS (guessing)... and an S54 based M roadster...

BMW has been moving us away from the X3 2.5 for 8 mos. now... getting the market ready! This ('06) will be a great MY!

As much as I'd like to see that, I really can't see BMW doing it.
BMW has a history of downbadging to give the higher end models the appearance of being "better." Case in point the 2.3 bading in '99 & '00 of the 2.5L...Having 2 3.0i's would probally be deemed as too confusing for the general populous. Sure all of us enthusiasts would know the difference, but the average joe that walks into the showroom is going to see two cars badged nearly identical, yet priced several thousand $ more/less...

So is it official that there will be no "Z4 2.5i"?
(leaving open the opportunity for a 3.oi & 3.0is, I suppose, but still seems unlikely- would they offer only a 3.0i & a M version then?)
