1.8 vs 2.5/2.8 Z3
Ok, I am sure its been beaten to hell... But for the poor among us who need to get a Z3, what are the advantages of the 1.8 vs the small 6s?
Besides power, we all know the power and torque are lower big time.
Maintenance wise, how does the 1.8 fare? What are we talking to keep it running smooth? Any real work?
I guess my big concerns are the engine, and the A/C. I can fix the rest myself.

MAYBE THIS ARTICLE WILL HELP http://www.motorbar.co.uk/bmwz3.htm

The real question is, which is easier to maintain/fix since there will be no warranty.

The real question is, which is easier to maintain/fix since there will be no warranty. | My dad back in Europe has a '96 1.8 Z3. He only replaced one bigger part on it (200+ dollars) during the whole lifetime of the car. He does not drive it a whole lot and has 90,000 miles on it, most of it non-highway. He never drives in stop-and-go traffic (if that would make a big difference).
Besides a little lack of power, he is very happy with it. He might replace it with a Mini... Another friend of mine has a 97 318i. I think he has about 70k miles; never had to fix anything on it...
So, I would think they are pretty reliable. But so are the 2.5/2.8s probably
