 A/C Condenser shot!

It is being replaced under warranty. I believe there is a part called a dryer (or evaperator) which should be replaced when the system is opened because it will pull in moisture. Is this correct? I want to call them tomorrow and make sure this is being done correctly. By the time it craps out again, it will be out of warranty!

I have a nice POS Chevy Cobalt as a loaner ...it is parked and I'm driving my Toyota Highlander instead.

Oh, I told them that the car was sharked and not to touch the software. I just couldn't stand to remove it for the 45 minute drive to the dealer.

I owe Jon some interior pics which I will take and post when I get it back.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, the dealer should replace the drier as a matter of course.

I'm on my second condenser. First one sprung a slow leak.

I think this one had a slow leak also. It worked from 4/02 (delivery) to 8/03 (I noticed that it didn't work on the way to HC03). I had it fixed when I returned 9/03 and just noticed that it didn't work again a couple of weeks ago. I don't use it much (it is nice to have if you get caught in the rain) but I do like to have everything working properly

I spoke with the dealer and they said that because the system still had pressure, there was no need ot replace the dryer. I'm not sure how you maintain pressure when you remove the Condenser, though.

Does anyone have a Bentley manual that says what to do for this? It doesn't matter what year, I'm just curious as to what they say about it.

Its easy you do not maintain pressure when changing either evap or cond. coils on a auto, there are no isolation valves on any car i have ever seen.as for still being in positive press. that is a good thing.that means that there is probably no contamination as in miosture in system.Don't get me wrong whenever you open up a system it is normal practice to replace a drier.especially if your system ran into vacume. that is why a low press. control cuts the compressor off in a low suction press. event whether it be a leak or a restriction. In other words as long as a good vacume is pulled on system, most likely you could get away without replaceing your drier. that is up to you.I have done it many times on many cars. However if low press didnot work that means your car did run in a vacume then a deffinate change would need to be done.WOULD BE GLAD TO HEAR MORE DETAILS AND GIVE YOU ANY HELP I CAN. ps:i do industrial refrigeration for a living and have been at it for 22yrs,I also get stuck fixing my friends cars to much, on my off time everybody comes knocking down here with thier leakers in fl. especially in summer.
