Sun Protection
Hey guys. I am currently moving to a cooler place more downtown Huntington Beach. The only downside is the garage; it looks like we might have to use it as storage and park the cars outside. I really don't feel like putting my car outside and let the paint (black) suffer from sun damage.
I was thinking maybe a car cover could be a solution? Anybody has experience with that and is it pretty handy to put on and off on a daily basis? Some hints and tips would really be appreciated! Thx!!

That aside, a cover can prtect the car but no matter how good they are, you will get fine scratches unless you wash the car every time before you put it on. It is a tough choice! I was faced with this situation myself and eventully gave up on the cover and used plenty of wax and tried to park in the shade.
Good luck!
| | Reply » Sun Protection | i'm in FL with a new-used M Coupe and i'm all nervous about it with the sun (and every other thing)... started looking at Zaino and whatnot. from what i understand from everyone from the Autozone guys to the websites to the detail and autobody guys...
keep it waxed (with anything... turtlewax does just fine, they say... others are overkill) tint cover if you're manic (who can be bothered) use UV wipes on interior.
the UV will beat up your tires, but i'm not expecting them to last too long on the shell streets here.
heat will whale on tires, too.
heat will roast battery

As soon as I get my car detailed I will pick up the waxing too. I'll definitely try the zaino products...
| | Reply » Sun Protection | yeah, i resolved to park under trees and deal with birdsheet and wax a lot,
i used a cool little sunshade that is 2pc and curls up into a tidy disk that i slide between the back of the passenger seat and the trunk seperator on my MCoupe,
park in my garage every night,
use UV leather wipes on the leather and UV plastic wipes on the plastic,
us armorall with UV on the tires,
keep my luggage cover pulled shut (i treated that but haven't found a good UV product for the carpets yet... suggestions anyone?)
picking up an orbital PorterCable and when i run out of my $14/tin wax, i'm buying the $114 full Zaino line, hype or not. the forum seems to love it.

Thx!! | Honestly, I'd be just as concerned about the ocean salt and mist. Parking outside, your car will be subject to a LOT of moisture at the beach. I park in an underground parking garage, but I'm also directly on PCH and I get a slimy film after two days. It sucks...
