M-Coupe Electrical Drain on Batt overnight

I am having trouble keeping a charge in my new battery in my 2000 M-Coupe.

Sometimes the battery is dead in the morning and I know I have not left anything on.

I disconnected the batt, charged it and I put an ampere meter in series with the batt and there is no current flow now.

I have looked for lights left on and I think I must have a sticking relay that keeps the power on to something and do not know the best way to find it.

Anyone run into the same problem?

Thanks,
Fred

You probably should check with a Multimeter, set on a more sensitive scale than the typical ammeter. If you have a clock or a radio, there should always be some very low-amp current anytime the battery is hooked up.

Try opening and closing doors, glove box, hatch, while watching the meter... work the light and dimmer switches... if the lights weren't so obvious, I'd say check the return spring on the brake pedal to make certain it is disengaging the stoplight switch...

Hmmmm... any real techs out there? What else stays on, when the key is off ?
Any common failure of the igntion switch ?

I would consider that the battery might be in question. Bent plate or two from low fluid level will cause this I'm thinkin....just a thought

New batt from Sears. I checked with an old analog meter and had it on the 10 ampere scale when I said it had no current draw after reconnecting the batt after charging it.

I will drive it today and check the draw tonight after work. It there an easy way to put the meter in so it does not see the full starter drain? Say, in the smaller power lines off the positive terminal connection?

I can pull out the radio in a few seconds once I see the draw, but I have not seen it yet.

Thanks for the info,
Fred
