As promised.. Final pics of leather seat cover and door panel project

You may recall.. This last winter I hired a local leather-smyth to make new covers for my Roadster's sport seats. Red and black BMW Nappa leather. Then, I disassembled the door panels and recovered their leather panel inserts, and, converted the black trim hockey sticks to aluminum. I also replaced the center console burl wood trim with aluminum trim.

It was too dark and rainy to do final install pics back then. Decided to wait for summer. As promised, here are the final shots. Some of these are taken in morning light and some in mid day light. The red changes color tone. Keep in mind also that my Cannon S30 cam has a tendency to brighten colors even more.

As you can see, there are some loose area to the seat bottom, plus some wrinkles in the shoulder blade areas. Some of this loosness in intentional. Or rather, a hedging bet. The panels in the seat bottom and the seat back (lower anyway), as you know, constantly go through a process of absorbing moisture from your body, and then dry out later. This has the long term effect of tightening the leather more and more as the years go by. Frank talked me into letting him make these panels just slightly looser. I agreed, as I've seen my Coupe's seats get tighter over these last 2.5 years. Frank says he sees old BMW's come in, where their leather has turned to cookie crumbles from this drying out process.

About 25% of the looseness has already tightened out of them.

The wrinkles in the shoulder blade are accidental. This part of the seat cover is held to the seat with a large velcro strip (BMW's way). It worked out well, but as you can see, it was a bear getting it to lay completely flat. These pups have also shrunk back some. Over time, they should flatten more.

Frank was really awesome to work with. Very talented guy. We were fortunate to have access to him. He still hasn't seen the car all assembled yet. I'm gonna drop by his shop tomorrow to show him, plus bring him a bottle of vino to say thanks.

My wife and I trade cars around (I've noticed most people don't??). But.. the Roadster is still mostly hers. Soo.. I bought her a purse that matches the interior.

Also note the Custom Doug Whalen SS E-Brake button. Bead blast finish... to match the alloy trim. Yeah...

I'll post five more pics under this post.
