So I went to buy a Nissan 350z...

...and ended up with a Z4. I'm new to this forum and a first time BMW owner. I figured since now, as unpractical as it is, the Z4 is my one and only car and winter looms not to far ahead, I better make some new friends. Not to mention the fact that I know almost nothing about cars. I figured I'd join a site where people love their cars and welcome new members with open arms...

You guys do that right?

I've read a few threads here and it seems that most of you guys are into this rather hardcore, with Ms and such, so please don't bash me to bad for buying a 2.5 and an automatic at that (I haven't driven stick in 11 years and I only did it for a week back then). Like I said, it will be my only car and although I want to have a lot of fun in it, I also wanted to be comfortable in traffic and on long road trips.

My Nissan had 185,000 miles on it when the transmission started spewing oil all over the place. It is at a friends house now who thinks he can fix it, or at least wants to have fun trying. I didn't care as I was already looking at new cars to buy. I had settled on the Acura TSX (maybe even the TL) because I loved the way they looked and of course the reliability of Japanese cars. Then I started looking at the 350Z roadster. I realized I wanted one, bad.

For around the same price, my friend said "screw the Z, get the Z", so I went to test drive two of them. Didn't make it to the second dealer. Man I love this car. Everything about it is GREAT, well except for the gas mileage...

Anyway, that is a quick story of my new car purchase. You guys can check out pictures of it here www.mooshack.com if you like. I notice most of you on here own Z3s, but if any of you do own Z4s and can share your thoughs, I'm open to them. Thank you!

Welcome, standard or auto?Well it is an every day driver right, that being the case you probably won,t regret it. I love my standard and going through the gears, but my car is mostly a garage queen and only sees the road on weekends if and when there is no rain.I live in tampa bay and my other vehicle is an auto, thank god with traffic being the way it is.But have my little manual toy for weekends. Once again welcome brother you won't regret your decison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot guys. I live in the Baltimore/DC area (where there are a MILLION 3 series, but not that many Z4s) and it will be my only car so I went with the auto. That and I haven't driven the manual in so long and was never good with it anyway.

When I finally get a second car, I will move up to a manual M of some type for sure.

Right now, I am super sad that my car stays out 24/7 and am thinking about buying a cover for it. Yes, the previous owner (my Z4 is an 2003 with only 6K miles on it) gave me a free BMW car cover, but I'm looking around trying to see if I can afford a better one.

Sadly, the one I want costs $500,000 and I don't think (no, I KNOW I can't) afford it. So now, I'm looking for a cheaper house with a garage.

Thanks for the welcomes, I look forward to learning a lot here.

Mo
