Well, brilliant me ordered a new set of Roadstars and Toyo T1Rs for my street wheels and was going to have them mounted up but...what's missing?! I forgot to order a set of transponders for the tire pressure monitoring system!
Anyone know what happens if the system doesn't see the transponders? I am hoping that nothing happens so I can run without them as I don't see any great value in the system as it doesn't seem to work very well.

What transponders?
Your car monitors the tire pressure as a function of the ABS wheel speed sensors (under inflated tire will be "faster" than higher rolling radius correctly inflated tire).

No wonder the system bites! I guess that I am used to some of my other cars that actually use a transponder clamped to the rim that transmits to the mintoring system in the car and can actually tell you reliably if you have a problem.
