Tire pressure monitoring system & 2nd set of wheels?

Well, brilliant me ordered a new set of Roadstars and Toyo T1Rs for my street wheels and was going to have them mounted up but...what's missing?! I forgot to order a set of transponders for the tire pressure monitoring system!

Anyone know what happens if the system doesn't see the transponders? I am hoping that nothing happens so I can run without them as I don't see any great value in the system as it doesn't seem to work very well.

Thanks!

What transponders?

Your car monitors the tire pressure as a function of the ABS wheel speed sensors (under inflated tire will be "faster" than higher rolling radius correctly inflated tire).

You have got to be kidding me! No wonder the system bites! I guess that I am used to some of my other cars that actually use a transponder clamped to the rim that transmits to the mintoring system in the car and can actually tell you reliably if you have a problem.

Problem solved!

Thanks Randy!
