I just wanted to introduce myself and share a little pre-z3 enthusiasm with you all. I've been reading your forum here and there for a little bit now and really like the comradery shared amongst owners.

On to the title...I talked my girlfriend out of an altima!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To equal the happiness felt by me I should probably run exclaimation points all the way down the page, but I'm sure that would be unappreciated. Anyway, I've always thought that bmws were first rate machines ever since middle school (although I hear that they've recently lost their soul from some old school owners - I'd love anyone with opinions to elaborate on this as I've been out of the car market for a few years while driving jeeps and I haven't kept up with cars older than 2000). So when my girl started implying that it was time to get something different, I eagerly suggested the z3. The price point is amazing (??I don't get it, but I won't fight it), they handle fantastically, and they've got plenty of pep with a 2.8 (probably more than she needs). All it took was to convince her that we didn't need the backseat and one test drive. She was floored. We have a few lined up to look at and should find one by the weekend!! The icing on the cake is that we share cars .

It seems like the going rate out here for a low mileage 2.8 z3 from '97-'98 is running at about 12-14k. Does that seem right to you?
