Harman Kardon
Does an upgrade to Harman Kardon audio worth it?
| | Reply » Harman Kardon | It depends. It does sound better than the stock system. But you can do a lot with teh same amount of money in aftermarket. If you like a LOT of bass, the HK system is bit lacking. But if you just like moderate music, played at reasonable volume levels, the HK system is very nice.

For $600 you won't find a better aftermarket setup with a full "factory-look".
I'd say the threshold is $2000. If you're willing to sink in $2k to the stereo then DON'T get the HK and go with your own route.
If want to spend less than $2k but more than $600 then get the HK and solve the bass problem. In particular the sub amp has a THD level of something ridiculous like 10%, so just changing that out would be a huge improvement.

I love listening to music in my car when I drive but will not want to spend 2K for it. I may just do the upgrade for $675.
