BMW says a 140 weight. I'm currently using Redline 80w140, but have also used Redline 75w90. I went through the TIS and service bulletins etc. a while back and there were a few cautions that only 140 weight should be used (chattering issues, I forget what else).

Dealers will usually decant what they use and charge you accordingly. Just bring a clean container and ask for a few liters (4 if you have the Rogue diff cover from Randy's work).

d, I don't see a 80.140 on RL's site; do you mean 75.140.

I've also sent you a PM at BF.c re: other

Bob Tunnel found that his diff temp went down some 20C by going from Redline to Mobil 1.

Your choice. I have Redline in one car, Mobil 1 in the other, and BMW fluid in the third. Just covering my bets.
