 VANOS on a 530?

Hi folks,

Does a 530i 2001 have VANOS system or no? when was it ontroduced? what about double vanose. I am actually buying a 530i 2000 in germany. but since it was introduced in 2001 in usa i am asking the question for a 2001 one. I guess a 528i 2000 does not have VANOS technology.

thanks
koorosh

Yes. The 530 has the M54 engine. And thatīs allways a double Vanos unit. The (late) 528 is an M52TU. Thatīs either a single (intake side) vanos or a double vanos as well (not entirely sure on that one)

M52 is a single vanos unit on the intake. The M52 is an evoluton of the M50.M54 is dual vanos As far as a 530i, dont be confused with valvetonic, which is a variable valve lift and timing system, which is only available on the 04+ 545i, 745, 06+ x30i's and x50i's.

M52TU (technical uldate) is also double vanos. I beliee this engine was introduced in 99 to coincide w/ the relase of the e46. The M54 didn't change much over rhte m52tu except newer engine mgmt computer, different intake and exhaust and something about a revised coolant flow to help the engine get up to temp faster (don't remember the details). HTe primary purpose of the M54 was to maintain performance levels while improving emissions.

I stand corrected. I have a 97 m52, so in my case, I am single Vanos. Thanks for the enlightenment though.
