Are factory shock moutns really that bad?
Are factory shock mounts really that bad? I am just curious, I have the GC/Rogue hybrid mounts and they dont look like they will move around much at all... but is this a good thing?
I know that the factory shock mounts would bounce around like an inch in either direction when I was driving around with no interior.
Just a thought. Maybe the aftermarket shock mounts should move a bit more?

There is a fundamental difference in the degrees of freedom allowed by the stock vs aftermarket styles. The key one, naturally, being vertical motion.
With the stock style, the whole rubber mass can move up and down, restricted only when the metal 'dish' pieces come into contact with the metal part of the mount (I assume this is where the clunking comes from when these wear). With the RE ones, at least, movement is limited to how much the donuts can compress (not much, considering they are already compressed during installation).
My guess is there is about 1/2" or more overall loss of vertical movement in the shock/mount assembly by going aftermarket. How it affects stuff, and whether that's good or not as a whole are other questions entirely.

The left side mount had a little tiny split in the rubber. Needless to say, it would've gotten worse if left in service, but the RSMs lasted as long as the shocks in that owner's opinion.
