Rear Shocks Installed - Fronts to Go

Got the rear Bilsteins installed and painted the calipers while I was at it.

All the rear trim is back in place and only had a few extra parts

Everything went well with the Rogue Eng mounts but I had to cut socket clearance into the metal washer on the Bilsteins just below the mounts to get a socket on the nuts.

Other than that didn't have too many problems - thanks to Andy for his suspension how-to, used it a lot.

Don't think I beat Randy's 1 hr for trim reinstall, had to take a few pieces back off because I forgot the combination.

Went ahead with the shock install since the H&R's are still 4-5 weeks away. Gotta get the fronts on before the local 7/3 autocross.

Question:
Are the stock shocks a good shock for our cars or would we be better suited to change them out for handling reasons??
Im asking as in a mod not as in mine are worn out

Seems like I just read a thread where someone changed his Z Coupe to M Coupe stock parts and was very pleased with the results - probably is a very inexpensive upgrade with the availability of good quality used parts.

I'll have the full set of M Shocks/ Struts / Springs with 22K miles on them as soon as my H&R springs arrive in a few weeks - let me know if you are interested

The only mod that I have done so far to my car is to change out the stock rear shocks for Bilstein HD's. Great mod for not much money. I think and I've heard that the stock shocks are not very good at all, and there can be a dramatic difference with just shocks. Over a certain section of road that was around a corner and a bit uneven, my old shocks made the rear end of the car seem as if it was floating and skipping ever so slightly sideways. The Bilsteins make it feel much more planted. I will do the fronts sometime in the near future.

FYI, at 16k miles, one of my stock rear shocks was pretty much dead. I could hear it making squishing compression noises as I drove. Once I had it out, I could compress it by hand and it would not rebound at all.

I would say that changing out the shocks to Bilstein HD or Konis is a GOOD thing. Bilstein Sports only if you go to shorter springs.

Changing the rear shock mounts to an aftermarket one, that mounts from below is a VERY GOOD THING.

The bushing on hte shock mount looks really compressed. What did you torque that to?
