 Message Board Functionality Changes (long)

Bimmerfest administration has made some changes to the board software that all should be aware of. These changes already happened and some people have already discovered them. Consider this an official announcement.

1. User Ability to Delete Posts. Bimmerfest members can no longer delete their own posts. If you post twice by mistake, or if your FS item gets sold, or if your question gets answered, or whatever and you want to delete your post, notify scottn2retro, AndyM, or myself and we will delete it for you. You can use the "report post" functionality if it's easier. We cannot do massive post deletes, but single posts are doable and easy and we will do them as quickly as we can.

2. User Ability to Edit Posts. Bimmerfest members can edit their own posts, but only within 24 hours of originally making them post. After 24 hours, if you want to edit a post, you need to get a moderator to do it for you. Again, send us a private message or else report the post or send us an email and we will do it for you... even if it's small stuff like correcting spelling mistakes. This does present a nuisance however, in that information that becomes invalidated by later discoveries will still be in the Bimmerfest archives. This could potentially lead to people using the search function and finding bad data (assuming every member was good enough to correct their posts in the first place, which is not true 100% of the time, even on our board). On the other hand, this should encourage everyone to keep doing what they are doing (at least on this board) and make high-quality, well-thought-out posts. If you post crap, it will potentially be immortalized forever.

These changes occurred as a response to a small number of Bimmerfest members who were abusing the boards. They had nothing to do with our board, but for the time being, we have to suffer and lose a little functionality. Scott and Andy and I will do our best to keep things running the way they were before.

One small point of caution...

Scott, Andy and myself can only delete and edit on the Z-series board. If you want to delete or edit a post you made on another Bimmerfest board, be advised that will be up to the discretion of that board's individual moderator(s). They may or may not be willing to do the same as we are.
