Recently noticed my floor jack (old sears model) dropped quite a bit when I lifted one side of my car. I came back a couple minutes after getting the right tool to find my rotor almost touching the floor!
How do you maintain a floor jack? There is a plug to put oil, but I don't know what kind of oil, and even if that would even help? Is the floor jack broken if it starts to lose its hydraulics.
TIA

Jack oil (called jack oil or hydraulic oil) is available at most auto part stores; or Sears.
If the jack is any kind of quality (i.e., not disposable) you should be able to buy a rebuild kit (consists of several replacement cylinder seals).

Thanks randy... I will go to sears this weekend to check it out. Hope that solves the problem.
It is a Sears jack which is of some good quality, but if the oil does not work, i'd feel more comfortable buying a new jack.

The seals are probably bad, though. The oil is leaking back through the seals. Get the seal kit if you want to rebuild it. Otherwise, get a new one. Just my two cents worth.

I was just wondering... it's an old SEARS floor jack... does this mean that Sears can replace this under their liftetime warranty thing?!!!
