Ok, so if I were to put chocks under the front wheels, and jack up the rear and place on jack stands, would it be safe to get under and work on it?
How about putting the front on gorilla ramps and the rear on jack stands?
I just dont want it falling off hte jack stands...
Anyone else can feel free to chime in...

If you're working on just the rear of the car, leave the front wheels on the ground; makes for easier access under the back end.
Personally, I don't like jackstands and only use them when I have to have the wheels off the car. Otherwise, I use 6x6x24 treated lumber under the tires.
Do not rely on just the jack when you're under the car (Tiff will be really pissed if something happens to you before you get all her projects finished).

Question: with the problems found in the rear diff mounts and such in the back end, what is the current recommended jacking point at the rear?

For a gear swap, you're gonna have to get pretty far forward to remove the exhaust. IMO, get the whole car up; whether you use railroad ties like Randy or jack stands. You can buy heavy duty 4 leg jack stands at Walmart for practically nothing.

Anyone else can feel free to chime in... | A guy in the neighboring town placed the front of his truck on ramps and proceeded to jack up the back. Truck rolled off the ramps and pinned him against the garage door killing him.
I double chain chock the front wheels and put the back up on my stands. Use ramps as the backup.
