 water temp gauge?

i would like to add a water temp gauge to my s54 mcoupe. i would like to put the sender in the block drain plug but the sender is 1/4" npt. no other sender is available for the gauge i want to use. where would be the best place to install this sender?

thanks, isaac.

Edge Motorworks sells an aluminum thermostat housing tapped for the sender. Works like a charm!

Neil,

Isn't the one from Edge Motorworks on the wrong side of the thermostat? IE it's not measuring the temp of the water in the block but rather the water comming out of the block?

I have a water temp sendor that's in the block drain plug. Ron Stygar drilled a hole in the middle of the drian plug and taped it to acept the water temp sendor. It was a pain to install but it works!

the s54 has a different t-stat housing. and the sender i will be using is to big (1/4" npt) to drill and tap the block drain plug (most senders are 1/8" npt). i might try to drill and tap my t-stat housing but it's around $160 so it would be an expensive experiment. anybody else have any ideas?

thanks, isaac.

Can you change the gauge?
Block drain is the way to go. It's within one degree of the OBDII reading.
I just wired my water temp gauge to switch between it and the diff temp one.
Toggle switch under the steering column. Forward = Engine temp. Back = diff temp.
At the motor mill we used a Lewis switch to switch many temps to the Leeds & Northrup brown. Thermocouples but the same idea.
