Accessory installation instructions
Many BMW accessories now come with no installation instructions. The following pic shows what, I assume, that some are using. Updated monthly if I remember right. It covers all models and also includes a lot of the Euro stuff. | | Reply » Accessory installation instructions | Quote: $5.00 retail? Man where can I buy it for $5.00?
Oh PLEASE tell me you're selling this Ron.
| | Reply » Accessory installation instructions | Quote: I screwed up. $5.00 is dealer net. Retail will be around $8.33. You should be able to purchase it from any BMW dealer. Order it using just the part number. If not, let me know.
| | Reply » Accessory installation instructions | I have the 11/2002 version of this, purchased from my dealer in December 2002.
Unlike the ETK and TIS, this disc does not have the option to install the data files to the PC hard disk, so you have to keep the CD handy and shuffle it into the drive when you need it. I decided this was a bit of a pain, so here's a way to run it from your hard disk. This does involve changing a value in the Windows registry, so if you aren't comfortable with that, this mod isn't for you.
This assumes you installed the software to the default drive and path (if not, change the drive letter and path in all the following examples).
First, insert your CD and copy the files in the \Docs directory of the CD to the C:\Program Files\BMW\BMW EBA\Docs directory (the directory should already exist, but be empty). Now you can remove the CD and store it in a safe place. Exit the EBA program if you have it running.
Next, extract the following text (between the ---cut here--- lines) to a file on your hard disk called C:\eba.reg.
---cut here--- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BMW\BMW EBA\Options] "InstallationPath"="C:\\Program Files\\BMW\\BMW EBA" "CD"="c:\\Program Files\\BMW\\BMW EBA" ---cut here---
Now, do Start/Run and type in "c:\eba.reg" and click Ok. You should get a dialog box that says "Are you sure you want to add the information in C:\eba.reg to the registry?". Click Yes. You should see "Information in C:\eba.reg has been successfully entered into the registry." Click Ok.
The next time you start the EBA, you should not be prompted for a CD.
Note - if you want to go back to the CD, simply start the EBA program, go to the "Options" tab, and pick your CD-ROM drive letter from the drop-down list in the window. If you change the drive letter, you'll need to re-run the eba.reg file to switch back to the hard disk.
| | Reply » Accessory installation instructions | Nah, you don't need to mess with the registry.
Just copy the \docs off the CD directly into the root of any hard drive partition (like c:\docs). Then start the EBA, go to the Options tab and just select the drive you put the \docs on. Program doesn't care if it's a CDROM or HD or whatever.

My method also works if you want to share the data among a number of PCs using network attached storage.
