Does anyone know whether the SMG III from the E60 M5 will be made available for other models (e.g. 650). From reading reviews this SMG sounds like a major improvement.

Thanks | I doubt it'll appear in anything but M cars. BMW tends to offer watered down SMGs in non-M cars, when they offer it at all.

The non-"M" version of SMG was original known as SSG. The focus of SSG is at comfort. If you want full bore of SMG with drive logic, you need to pay for the M car.
There is nuthing wrong w/ call it what it is. SMG is the waterdown version of SMG III, as 650s are watered down version of M6. Until the real deal shows up, the 650i SMG is as good as it gets for top peroferming BMW Coupe 
BTW pops, the steptronic is waterdown version of SMG Just so you know.....
