I just got a new Z4 (3.0/Merlot/black/wood/SP/PP/xenons) and although I'm having alot of fun driving it now, I'm also thinking ahead to next winter. Garaging it for the winter is not an option. Is there any reason why I can't buy a set of 17" wheels and snow tires to put on in place of the 18" performance run-flats during the winter? Anything I need to be cautious of? Any recommendations?

For my coupe, I throw on a set of 16" with Blizzaks and I have had no problem in any snow situation (living in Illinois). When I research it, I found people recommending the 16" over the 17" since you damn up less snow. The Blizzaks have never let me down and I have never had to put sand in the trunk.

I drive my Z3 all winter as well - I have 15" steel wheels with Michelin Arctic Alpins and a hard top. I also think you should go with 16s for your car - You WANT more tire sidewall height and a narrower tire for good winter performance. Mine drives really well on snow and ice with my setup. Definitely check out Tire Rack's packages!
