Don't know that this has been discussed... GASOLINE COMPARO

A co-worker and i are debating the differences in gasoline quality/brands... such as 76 w/ ProPower, Chevron w/ Techron, and Shell V-Power...

Any insight to which is superior? I know that Shell V-power has 5 times the cleaning agents than what is mandated by the gov't. He's saying that Shell is garbage gas, and 76 rules...

Are there any articles that compare the three or some sort of scientific/chemical analysis of each to backup my claim that SHELL has gotten better and is indeed really good gas.

All the major gasolines clean deposits. And all of them leave other deposits. One online article on gasoline by a petroleum engineer suggests switching brands every 5K miles.

I know that Ron and I both were looking into fuel,Shell seams to be the best,Mobil helped the car before the cold start issues and when running racing fuel 76 is owned by SUNOCO and I have run both brands 100 gt for two years.

This has been discussed several times that I know of, but those threads are in other forums like General Automobile, General BMW, and some of the other model specific threads. I am not aware of any previous such discussion here in the Z Forum, but that is just from lack of knowing all of the discussions that have occured over the years.

Here in Seattle the comparison is a lot harder.
There are several refineries about 60 miles north, that process Alaska crude.

The fuel is put in a pipeline, and sent south.

The jobbers go to the terminal, get a truckload, and distribute it.
Just exactly where all the different chemicals are added is unclear to me, but the basic gasoline could be from any refinery, going to any brand station.

There is SOME separation tho, Conoco/Phillips put too much of a "heavy polymer" into a batch that got distributed within Western Washington. Mostly Conoco stations had issues, but some independents that got gas from Conoco did too. A lot of that was trucked direct from the refinery. Conoco paid for a few auto repairs last week!

The same pipeline gets switched to differing products thruout the day, with separation kept with a device called a "pig". The diesel for our tugs comes via the pipeline, Av Fuel for SeaTac Airport, considerable gasoline for Seattle distribution, etc.

Fast fact lookup: 400 miles in that pipe, 14 M gal/day, end of the pipe is in Oregon

Thus a comparison of brands MIGHT not be necessarily valid, as well as blanket "X gas is best" statements.
