OT: but with M Rdstr content...

While I'm not exactly ready to place my order for the Healey's Heritage interior just yet, I figured I needed to at least narrow down the colors.

Sue and I were looking through online pictures, comparing the swatches and guessing what the car looks like when she said we really need the car to do this...

Fortunately, I had two (2) hoods painted when the car was done and one of them was in the basement (Healey is currently in a neighbor's garage across the condo's drive).

Here's Sue feeling completely at home with Healey parts in the bed:

A couple of shots taken last Sunday while on a break from working with the black car (in the garage).

Are the louvers stock or did you add them? Years ago louvers like that were common. Almost had this done on my '40 Ford deluxe coupe. Been wanting to do this discretely on my coupe for heat release.

Randy, thanks for the idea. I have an old hood in the garage but I never thought of doing anything kinky with it.

Other than the fresh paint, I got that hood as is from a Healey parts car (BN6L-2180) that no longer exists.

Unfortunately, those louvres are not of the correct shape; too high crowned. The Healey 100/M (for LeMans) had a louvred "bonnet" from the factory, but the louvres were much flatter than these. The lourvres on my hood also run off at a slant; strictly a 2nd rate job!

I may use that hood on occasion, certainly not something I'd want on the car when caught in a rainstorm (ideally, I won't get caught in ANY rainstorms in that car).

Trouble with the Z3 hood is it is such a large expanse (and expense) of metal, it would be very difficult to manipulate in the press (required to stamp them). Perhaps a better idea would be to cut out the area of metal where the louvres are desired from a salvaged hood, stamp the louvres and then weld that panel into a good hood. A lot of work to do it right. But as you (and Dale) know, it can be made to look right from both sides.

Yes, louvres are from a bygone era, but there's a guy not far from here that has been putting them on more and more (semi) modern British cars. The area's annual British car show is in a couple more weeks, I'll try to get some more info about him then.

I guess I violated Rule #1: what happens in the bedroom...

.
Good idea. Thanks.
