Suggestions on buying a used BMW without first driving it...

I'm considering buying a used 2004 330Ci ZHP that is out of state being advertised on Autotrader. I've seen pictures of it, asked plenty of questions, and ran a Carfax on it, but I basically have to purchase it without seeing it in person or taking it for a test drive. This concerns me somewhat, and I'm wonderng if you guys have suggestions on what I can do to ensure I'm not buying a car that has problems. For example, are there services out there that will go out and inspect a vehicle for you?

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

Tell us where it is. You may find someone on this Board who'd test it for you. Or, maybe a local BMW dealer.

Wouldn't a few hundred bucks for airfare be a worthwhile investment

Unless it's so far that you would rather trailer it to you, I'd do a one-way flight out there. Alternatively somebody here could drive it for you -- there are quite a few ZHP owners here (myself included) who might be able to help.

You can use an inspection service...

You should not buy a used car without seeing it first or having a qualified expert proxy see it before you sign on the dotted line. It will be money well spent for the money you are about to pay out.

Buyers on Ebay can arrange for on-site inspections. If you don't know someone who really knows what they are doing, this may be your next best bet to avoid a bad mistake.

Follow the link for more information. You don't have to be using Ebay to find a company that will protect your interests.
