I'm going to be driving this famous piece of highway in mid December on the way to LA. Any helpful hints from Bimmerfesters? |

Dont do it, it's grueling and the scenery is the same the whole way. I'd take PCH for 50% of the drive, 101 for the other half. Then you have an excuse to stop in wine country too!

There is another similar thread on this... do a search and you will get a lot of great info.
I wouldnt drive the whole way on 1....that is a loooong trip.
If you have time a visit to the Hearst Castle in San Simion is well worth the visit. And if you are into bicycles at allthere is a great store in Cambria called, appropriately enough, Cambria Bicylce Outfitters.

Highway 1 is actually called the Cabrillo Highway for the stretch you mention. PCH is the name for the LA segment. Our route back from Bimmerfest the past couple of years has been to take 101 up to San Luis Obispo, then to take 1 along the coast up to Watsonville. We split up there last year with one group staying on 1 over to Santa Cruz then back to the SFBA via 17, and the rest of us taking 156 to connect with 101 in Gilroy. It's a nice drive and the scenery is spectacular.

Take it as far as Cambria, then head across country through Paso Robles to the 5.
Take the 5 from there to LA, there's nothing else to see.
