OK, I'm probably missing something simple here, but I can't figure out where to connect the wires that go to the UGDO I just got from LeatherZ (part of Mark 2 armrest for M coupe).
There are two wires coming from the UGDO, one white and one black. Which one is positive and which one is negative?
There is a two-position connector included with the kit. To where does it connect? I'd prefer that the UGDO is powered at all times.
Yes I used the search. Yes I read the instructions.
The armrest is very nice. Now to get the UGDO wired.

Bob,
I put mine in last year. The wire they recommend using is accessed by removing the lower part of the e-brake boot. It's buried under the foam in there and is a pita to get to. Also, unfortunately, that wire is switched, so it only works when the key is on. (I think its the wire for the phone). I think I'm going to eventually try and tap into the wire for the lighter, as that one is on all the time. If I get a chance I'll try and dig out the paperwork on it.... I can't remember which wire is which.
Good luck, Mike

Black is Ground White is Hot
The Cell phone connector is under the carpet as Mike described, sometimes easy to access, sometimes much harder, it all depends on who put the car together.

Installation instructions are here
I'm not sure it would be a good idea to connect a UGDO to the cig lighter. It may draw some current all the time which could drain your battery if left long enough. Plus, if your top is down and you are parked in front of your house, a thief could just press a button and get in.

do you have the BMW pin removal tool?

Thanks for the quick replies guys! That link has instructions which seem very clear. Can't wait to go at it again. No, I have no pin removal tool --- I usually use a very small screwdriver as a tool for removing Molex pins.
I have connected my E46 UGDO to constant power with no ill effects. The UGDO shouldn't draw any current when not in use, and seems not to. As for security concerns, I figure that if they have broken into my locked Coupe or Touring to get to the opener I am already in trouble. Roadsters are another matter entirely. YMMV, of course.
