I have a question about my '00 MCoupe. It was a certified BMW with 44,000 miles on it when I purchased it a month ago. Great car, but I am wondering about the clutch.
When shifting hard from 1st to 2nd to 3rd at wide open throttle the clutch seems to slip smoothly during the transition... i.e. it won't slam into gear. There is no slippage thereafter throughout the selected gear. Is this by design by BMW so as to protect the drivetrain? Or is it actually early signs of a worn clutch?
I also drive a WRX which has a different clutch design I believe. It will slam into gears if I desire to drop the clutch (which I don't). However there is no doubt that all 300 hp is going to the wheels.
Anybody have experience with this?

I think i know what you are talking about...I tend to abuse my machine and when i attempt to peel out or just "get a fast start" from a stop the clutch does feel funny like it would be slipping for a moment or two and the force seems to go to the wheels gradually. I have no clue whether its by design or not, i might have a worn out clutch too

Some E46s of that vintage have a Clutch Delay Valve. Our M Roadster feels like you describe, but I don't see anything that looks like such a device, but it sure feels like there is one.

Probably CDV. I can't slam into each gear in my X3, and could not in my old 330. If the clutch was worn, you would notice slippage in a middle gear (such as 2nd or 3rd) when flooring the throttle.

There is a restriction in the clutch line.

Is that the hose itself? So replacing with SS line would remove the restrition? If so, great news, time to do the swap.
