 BMW 6 CD Stacker problem

Can anyone suggest a fix for a problem with the BMW factory 6 CD stacker ?
The vehicle is a 99 M Roadster with the factory Harmon- Kardon am-fm cassette /radio and I recently installed a 6 CD stacker in the trunk, BMW # 65 12 6 913 388 using the factory pre-wiring. When using the radio or tape I get sound properly through all the speakers, however when I play a CD, I only get sound on the left side of the car, none on the right. With the balance control adjusted in the middle I only get sound on the left. If I adjust the balance all the way to the right there is no sound at all, if I adjust all the way to the left, it is all left. All other functions and controls work properly. I checked the plug at the back that pushes into the CD player and it appears O.K. I tried another BMW CD player from a friend ( a different part # but it hooked up the same ) and it worked the same ( no sound right side )
Does anyone have the wiring code (color ?) for the right side speaker channel of the CD player or can you tell me how to locate and test for the right vs left channel on the player ?
I don't think it's a problem with the amp as it works fine with radio and tape, and I don't think there is a problem with the CD stacker but perhaps in the wiring between it and the amp. Or perhaps the plug into the back of the CD player was wired incorrectly from the factory. Can anyone pass on the correct pin assignments ?
Thanks !
