  spring time yet?

 spring time yet?

yesterday it was 64 and sunny; today falling to the low 30s and rain/snow. cant wait till spring is actually in the air, when a young man's fancy turns to autocrossing. just glad to see that no rodents had taken residence in the Coupe during winter storage.

To do list:
Modified CDV
Cryo rotors
Hawk pads
Thicker rear spring pads
Change/bleed brake fluid
Possible strut bar

As we celebrate Casmir Polaski day, it is good to remind ourselves of the beauty of Spring at this time of the year and getting out in the sunshine. Had the roady out this weekend and today even though they are calling for rain or wet snow later tonight. Can't wait to being able to drive the car without regard to that concern. Winter is simply too long and Spring is not here soon enough.

finally, mother nature was cooperative and I was able to set aside some time to work on the Coupe.

Installed Power Slot cryo rotors and Hawk HPS pads upfront. Original rotors had a nice wear step on the edge and made it a bear to remove the calipers. We’ll see how well this set-up works during upcoming track and auto-x events -

(cinder block is there for safety, not support )

Doubled up on rear spring pads (7.5mm x 2) to help alleviate that “don’t bother me now, im taking a dump” look on lowered Coupes-

Helps a little, but significant negative camber is still there.

Also, changed the oil and filter. Went to Mobil 1 15-W50 on the advice of my S/A. He runs an E30 M3 in CCA events with that grade. Says it may help reduce the infamous “lifter tick” caused by hard cornering.

Still on the list-

ATE Type 200 Brake Fluid
Coolant flush and fill
Strut tower bar on order
Modified CDV

(less restrictive? We’ll see)

Attended the first Windy City BMWCCA auto-x of the season this past Saturday- >40deg F with light flurries at times! Springtime has yet to arrive here, but it was great getting the Coupe out and running it on the course. Tires were cold on the first couple of runs and I was spinning through first and second on my launches.

This was also the first time running the Coupe with the modified CDV and fixed shift pins- what a difference! It feels like a completely different trans! Clutch and shift action has gotten noticeably lighter (maybe a little too light?). It’s also easier to modulate the clutch under slow speed maneuvers- no more burning clutch smell!

Also installed DINAN strut bar- got it $100 off list price from the dealer because it was sitting there for a while.

My assessment-

30% structural
30% aesthetics
30% placebo
and %10 unknown
