 Gummy Bear Bearing

Geeze, this bearing just melts. Wonder if we could design one that doesn't melt and won't transmit vibration?

Just took a good look at mine. Pritty bad at 50K.

Just how much play from the shift linkage did you remove by replacing the rear bearing? I just replaced the front shift carrier bearing with a delrin bushing. It did tighten up the linkage but not as much as I would expect. The rear bearing does seem pretty loose but it is a long way from the shifter. So how much improvement did you get?

Unless you have the engine/transmission bolted solidly to the chassis structure, the end of the shift carrier needs to float to account for the rocking of the eng/xmsn.

A different rubber coumpound may be desireable, but even urethane may prove to be too rigid and cause the end of the carrier arm to break.

With (Ron's) Delrin carrier arm bushings, that rear bearing won't have as much influence on shift feel as with the stock (front) carrier bushings. Just replace the rear one with a new stock one periodically.

Just one that holds up better to heat. I am replacing it when the Guibo goes in along with the shifter parts.

What do you think about the weighted shift connecting rod from UUC?

I would love to have a mulit channel analogue interface with some thermal couples to place around the transmission area to see what kind of temps are there. The tranny catch pin is another temp related pbm.

There's a few of us here that feel to add weight to cure a problem is not a good engineering solution...

And before anyone says it, tires/wheels should be manufactured perfectly so as not to require balancing (and therefore, adding weight)

When you balance the reciprocating/rotating parts of an engine, you find the lightest part and match the others to it

At the front shifting arm bushing area in my coupe it was around 210 degrees if I remember right.
