Hi folks,
Need some guidance... The "Service Engine Soon" light came on in my car a couple of days ago. I read that this is commonly a gas cap issue. The gas cap is on tight. I'm not experiencing any significant change in performance as far as I can tell. No weird sounds or smells coming from the car.
I read somewhere that this can come on if you leave the car idling for a long time. I did let it idle for about 5 minutes the other day before the light came on. Is this long enough to cause this fault?
Any other possibilities?

A few potential culprits come to mind...
The O2 sensors are notorious for giving faults, as is the exhaust gas thermocouple. Then there's the little pump that pressurizes the fuel system to test for integrity (the real reason behind the gas cap needing to be secure). Seems like there's one more, but it's not coming to mind at present

I think AndyM is now a Peake reseller. He should be able to get you a good price on a fault reader.
