I am the rpoud owner of a BMW 328i Cabrliolet - 1998. This is one of the last few to be imported to SA. I have been looking at buying a BMW 330ci (E46) cabriolet and was wondering if any of you out there can give some comparisons. I have a motor journalsit friend who own a M Coupe based on the Z3. His comments were that I would be dissapointed as he feels the E46 was "numb" compared to the E36. Any other comments?

Most cars would feel numb to somebody acustomed to the "arsey" antics of an M Coupe.[... with it's M power applied to the road via the primitive rear end !]
Early E46s were often described as feeling a little "remote" but mods to the front end and to the power steering weight from 2002 helped. I moved from an E36 318i [...not a fast car but beautiful handling, thanks to the light engine] to an E46 325 coupe. I prefer the E46. Slightly different feel but just as responsive and equally fun.

The E46 vert is far stiffer than the E36. The roof structure of the folding top on the E46 was significantly improved and much stronger and stiffer than the E36. So that alone should improve the driving experience.

Thanks guys for your info. I am very keen on getting a 300ci vert. Some more help or info please. From time to time I get a "Brake Light Circuit Fault" warning. This happens irregularly. However when checking the usual light bulbs nothing wrong. Any ideas what could be causing this? I used to own am 1992 525i and prior to the battery saying cheers it would also give funny warning messages. Could this be the problem?

COuld be. Or the contacts of the bulb and/or the socket are getting a bit corroded.

Now that you mention it there is a very tiny hole in the left hand side light bulb metal contact. Can you replace this or should you replace the entire light fitting?
