My drivers door no longer opens correctly. If I simply pull on the handle the door mechanism does not release. I must now push the door in and while doing so... pull on the handle .... and the door then opens.
I know little about the inner assembly/workings of the door mechanism.
Any suggestions/fixes?

Try a "smear" of grease on the striker pin (doorjamb).

Check that all set screaws are in all the way if one backed out a little it will throw the strike off!

interesting....got exactly the same problem with a 97 Z3
and if it ever stops raining I'll test out these suggestions

had the same problem too. I was going to post about it, but the mechanics fixed it during the routine inspection. Good to know some solutions for next time.
