 checking toe

Has anyone used a tool like this one Longacre to measure and or adjust the toe on their Z? It looks rather straight forward. I could probably build one for less than the $50.

Funny you should mention it...

Daniel is in the midst of doing the toe work right now.

As for the toe plates, how much is your time worth? I bought them and considered it a wise purchase (and I make all kinds of stuff).

should work fine if your mindful about doing a good job

I have laser toe plates, same thing but is more accomodating to doing it by yourself

understand that you are only measuring total toe, you need to work from a good centered toe position and only change/measure one side at a time. Not so much an issue in the front because you can use the steering wheel position to get back to center of you're off, but if you have adjustable rear toe and get off-center the plates aren't going to help you get it straightened out. You'll have to get it on a rack or use the string method.

Thanks for the replies guys

I was wondering about how to make sure the toe is even from one side of the car to the other with these plates. My mechanic uses the string method which, to me, seams like a better way to go.

We are looking at a group purchase (not as in many, but as in one for a group to use at my garage).

I like the SmartStrongs, but they might be too P car specific in design. I am looking at doing a system like is used on the Spec Racers, which is a car specific string setup. So you hook the front and rear bars on, attach the strings (wires actually) and measure.

Also looking at the laswer toe plates.

Laser toe plates are nice for working alone, as TeamM3 mentioned. They're on my list, but behind turn plates. Sigh, tool wish list is always growing rapidly.

Turner steering rack tool is on the way. Just a big spacer to slide over the rack shaft, then bungie the steering wheel. Useful to get the rack in the same spot repeatably.

All of the ART laser tools look nice. I'd love to have their Laser String and Laser Toe Angle Gauge.

EDIT: I suppose it might help to post a link:
