I just ordered all the CD's for parts and service for BMW off Ebay. This set came with a Pelican Parts Catalog disk also. . I spent 25 bucks and got 5 cd's.
Either there is no useful information on these things or I am not opening them properly...

The ETK is the parts catalogue. There's an online version with less features at http://www.realoem.com
The TIS is the service instructions and specs. Let's say you need to know what to torque the oil filter cap to, this will have it. It will have instructions on how to remove/replace bits etc.
I don't know what your other CDs contain.

You should also have the ETM (electrical troubleshooting manual) in the form of an Acrobat file.

Follow the Setup directions carefully . I think they usually want you to install the ETK first which has the Sysadmin Application. Then you can install the TIS.
If you installed everything properly and are having problems with the CD / Programs functioning (they're hanging up on you ), then check your monitor display. I believe it has to be set at 1024x768. Any other display and they won't work properly .

Not true; I always use 1600x1200.
You need to install the sysadm program first, which will let you install the rest. Once the sysadm program is installed, run it. Select 'EPC->Install' from the menu, then 'TIS->Install'.
It wants a password at some point, I forget where. 'berlin56' (without the quotes) worked for mine.
The Pelican Parts disc is useless, I wouldn't bother installing it. It's essentially a copy of their web site.
