I've noticed a few times (not every time) that when I am going slow and turning left, I sometimes here a sound from the rear (right rear as near as I can tell). It is hard to describe the sound. It is not a metal-on-metal or a popping sound or anything real loud. It is a subtle, muffled sound that seems to "rotate" with the turning of the wheels and goes away as soon as the car straightens out of the turn. Perhaps something binding or rubbing. Its only when I'm turning slowly that I hear it sometimes (left turns are the only time that I specifically remember hearing it). Anyone care to offer any suggestions as to what to check and what the culprit may be (based on the very little data that I've provided). Perhaps an axle shaft binding? Other? I've looked under the car and my cursory exam shows nothing obvious amiss.

Sounds like rear wheel bearings.
Easier to leave to someone else to do, but if you have access to the right type of tools, a good 3-4 hour job. Mostly heavy mechanicing, not really technical work.
Ron has all the correct tools, I made do with all-thread and certain 3/4 inch drive sockets.

That's the kind of noise Zoran heard on his Coupe. What he thought went away above 10 MPH, was actually being masked by wind/road/engine noise as speed built up.
We used this Snap-On (Blue Point brand) electronic listening device to pin-point the noise coming from his right rear wheel bearing.

You have all the cool tools Randy!
I have a couple noises in my roadster that that tool would surely help with! The problem with finding noises tho, is then you have to fix them!
My rear wheel bearings started to go enroute to HC. I ended up buying the parts there, and carrying them home. I then drove an extra month before I got the gumtion to fix it.
All better now.

What is involved in replacing the rear wheel bearings? It is probably beyond what I am willing to take on. I would probably have to find a competent mechanic to take care of it. What is the average labor hours to have this done? -thanks

Not sure if that includes the output shaft etc. Bearing retails for $87.50 but many dealers inflate retail.

which shows the parts and some of the tools. Haven't had time to scan and post the instructions yet. How many miles on the car?
