Tightest subframe nuts I've ever seen...

I have removed the subframe nuts from numerous M Coupes/Rdstrs now, and the ones on this Coupe were the tightest I've had to undo. Possibly the tightest fastener I've ever had to remove!

I have an Armstrong 4:1 torque multiplier. You would normally use a tool like that, for example, if you wanted to put 400 Lbs/ft of torque on a fastener and only had a 100 Lb/ft torque wrench. But it also works to remove fasteners, and this marks maybe the third time I've used it in twenty years! The breaker bar and "cheater pipe" had no effect whatsoever. I had to use the breaker bar AND the torque multiplier to "crack" them loose, then I could use the ratchet on the tq/mltplr. The right side came loose with "only" extreme force on the breaker bar.

Oh, okay, here's a couple shots of the car too...

Note too, that I had to replace (and reinforce) the swaybar mounts on the body and reinforce the tabs on the trailing arms. I'm open to suggestions as to what I should use to "touch up" the plastic coating on the trailing arms. I thought about that stuff you dip your tool handles in, but I question its durability.

I have used some epoxy paint that crap will stick well, and it is durable,I have used the rubbertex for my line man grips,I do not think it will hold up look for a small can of epoxy paint one part style.

The marketing boys need to work - big time! - on their claims, but this has worked *very* well in the last six months I've owned it. I-R impact wrench

Cool, I have to get one of those torque multipliers. Heck with that I can break ANYTHING.

New evidence comes to light; so this explains why they were so tight. Can't blame the factory for this one...

Randy, don't make me have to go there and loosen those nuts for you!
He, he, I couldn't resist
