This is just a question of curiosity, Since DSC was standard on cars in 1999 or atleast some, Does anyone know or have a opinion on why the M roady and coupe did not come with it, I realize it is just a safety system and not perf. but even with the M//s better perf. the system could still be tuned down. I was just wondering why they didnt use it on the M//s (Z)

At least for the Ms they shared the motor with the E36 M3 and probably they wanted to reuse as much hardware and software possible. 98s did not have ASC (DSC was available beginning 01 on the Ms). 99 and 00 had ASC but not DSC. I guess the S52 motor could be used with DSC after all (maybe I am wrong) but my opinion is that it was a decision based on what would be simpler and cheaper to have at that point in time. As I said E36 M3s had it so they probably borrowed a bit from there.

Mainly because the Z3s were based on teh E36 chassis. DSC was developed in the E46 chassis, so some thing were not compatible.

I wish I could remember where I had read it, but when I was researching my purchase I seem to recall that BMW could not find a processor fast enough to do the DSC calc's on the shorter wheelbase roadster. It wasn't until 2001 that processor speed was up there enough for DSC to be added.

Nope.
DSC Requires drive by wire, it has to be able to cut the throttle completely from your input. They didnt really deem it necessary to retrofit the S52 to DBW in order to equip it with DSC, but since the S54 was DBW, (as is the M54) it wasn't complex.
It has nothing to do with processor speeds or wheel base lenghts.

My '01 M coupe uses the same DSC hydro unit as the E46 M3.
