Expansion Tank-Radiator Replacement Etc.
I have a '97 2.8 with about 62K miles. I am not the original owner and don't know what has been replaced in the cooling system. I have been doing a lot of reading regarding failures of the water pump, fan blades, thermostat, thermostat housing, plastic radiator tank (neck). I am getting afraid to take this car on a long trip.
It sounds like replacing the thermostat, T-housing and radiator maybe good preventative maintenance. I don't want to go over board on preventative maintenance but I want to do the smart things to prevent breakdowns and high repair bills on the road.
Should the plastic coolant reservoir be replaced with the radiator?
Do the fan blades need replacing or can I just keep an eye on them? If I could run them another 10-20K miles before replacing thats OK. I don't mind a little double work.
How about the fan clutch? Same as fan blades above.
Randy Forbes replaced a lot of cooling items

Are all nine hoses pressurized and have flow through them? Do they all need to be replaced are can you get by without doing them all?
I guess I need to look at my guibo also.
I am getting a little frustrated. Maybe I should dump this car and get something newer that requires less maintenance. I do my own work but I am not looking another full time job.

Mike | hey Mike,
I think any car with >60 K and hasn't had cooling system maintenance should have it done.
As for your case:
Radiator and xpansion tank are one piece. If its not leaking leave it.
waterpumps do have a life expectancy and 60k sounds reasonable.
Thermostats have'nt been a reported failure, however the plastic housing is. Changing to the alumnium one is a good idea. The thermostat goes along with that job.
Hoses if they look cracked is always a good idea otherwise leave them.
Fan and clutch are expensive if they fail, they take the radiator sometimes. Your call on that one, its an expensive part. as for me at 60k I replaced everything for the piece of mind.
