 worn conv. top repair?

My '01 Z3 top is worn in the two places that, when the top is down and folded into itself, make contact with the hard rubber rim around the outside edge of the clear plastic rear window. Before I found out about the poor design and engineering that allowed this, I assumed that the original owner must have tried to attach a roof carrier or some such thing to the top, to cause these worn spots.

So there they are. Short of a new top, is there any way to neatly repair or patch over these places such that it doesn't look too bad? The top is water-tight, and only slightly frayed - it's not terrible as it is, but it does offend my sensibilities.
