 New to the Forum

Hello all. Just want to thank everyone for all the great posts. They have been so helpful in answering all of my questions. Just upgraded from an 1998 Audi A4 to a 2001 BMW 325i. Absolutly love it.

One question I do have. The car is an automatic with a steptronic transmission. When I push the shifter to the left and should be in manual mode nothing seems to happen with the car. Is it broken or is there something I am not doing right. (Maybe disabaling DSC?) or am I just expecting it to be something its not? any thoughts would be awesome.

Also the side moldings on the doors is starting to seperate as is the molding at the bottom of the door. Similar thing with my Audi and I had the replace the clips and the molding. Any ideas if I have to replace both on the bmw or can just the clips be replaced

Thanks again. Without this site and all of you I would have spent months trying to answer other questions.

Nate- Welcome to the Board and BMW ownership.

When you push the lever to the left, do you just leave it there or are you then pushing it forward and back (away from you and towards you) to go through the gears?

Even when I push it forward to upshift or back to downshift I notice nothing. I figure if it was broken there would be a warning light. Also the D for drive dosent change on the dash (Not sure if it supposed to change to indicate change in steptronic.

Push to the left just triggers the sport mode. If you push forward or backward after push to the left, you're in manual mode.

Can you make the switch while driving or in order to be in sport mode does it have to be done in the park posisition? I have always been driving and made the switch

It can be changed while you drive for sure and it will show with D, S or M1....M5 if my memory is correct for the display symbol. But the display does change.
