would you buy a "spiritedly driven" s52?

hi,
i'm looking at buying a s52 that has been tracked a few times and i know has been raced on the streets and such. the car has about 75k miles, and has been maintained well. would you buy such a car? i would love to have one with lower miles that hasn't been tracked, but this is in my price range. thanks in advance.

Id look at the mainteneace log. Make sure it has had every maintenace called for by the manual.

Also, Id have a close look at the suspension components. Tracking and hard driving will require more frequent service intervals. And some BMW suspension pieces are relativly delicate.

75K is about where things begin to need replacing. So while the car may be in your purchase range, will you be able to keep up the maintenance schedule.

How do you plan to service the car? Can you do your own oil changes etc. You may want to have a look at dealer and independant shops for their standard charges for oil changes, service I and Service II.

The S52 motor is practically bullet proof unless someone messes up a downshift or the oil pump nut backs off.

ah, thanks for the input. i'm pretty mechanically competant, as i have big lift and all the correct tools. i was really referring to the subframe issues. i have heard the s52 is bulletproof and wanted to be sure. also, i won't be putting many miles on the car, probably less than 10k a year. thanks for you input!

I would thoroughly check for cracks. If there are none, you're good to go I suppose.

But I imagine a car that has gone through a few track days and 75k miles, would start showing those types of signs...Good luck on the M Coupe Freeplay
