Just installed Autoloc BMW45P keyless entry
Total install time would have been about 20 minutes if one of the fuses hadn't come unplugged after re-installing the glovebox and the little platic plate with the 90-degree turn plastic rivets. Tested before everything went back together, and it worked. Apparently, positioning the glovebox knocked a connection off. Used two zip ties to make sure that wouldn't happen again.
VERY glad to have keyless entry on my car. Actually, this is the first keyless entry I've ever had, so it's kind of a monumental moment.

How hard was it to do this? You used BMW parts? How much $$$? My dealer wants $600 to install it on my 02 M roadster. They tell me I can only get keyless entry as part of the alarm system.
Thanks for any help.

1) Remove plastic panel w/3 quarter-turn rivets 2) Remove glovebox (6 screws and a little tugging) 3) Locate factory 12-pin alarm connector 4) Dislodge 12-pin alarm connector from its surroundings 5) Plug in BMW45P connector to factory 12-pin alarm connector. 6) Plug in other end of BMW45P harness to BMW45P module 7) Mount module (I put it in the empty tray where the OEM alarm would go) 8) Test functioning 9) Put everything back together
As I said, 20 minutes if you've done it before and everything goes smoothly.
Not BMW parts....Autoloc BMW45P keyless entry system. I bought it from Bavarian Autosport for $134. If your dealer wants $600 to install the OEM alarm, their technician must be doing everything with his teeth...there's no way that it should take 6 hours for a "professional" to install an alarm. Well, maybe with a 5 hour nap thrown in. They told you that you can only get keyless entry as part of the OEM alarm simply so that they can make money. They are wrong.
