Rear spring rubber perch pads.. different sizes available?

After studying from all angles.. on a gorgeous crisp bright winter's day, btw (love it!).. I've determined for myself that using wheel spacers on the rear of the Coupe to bring the tires out a bit and "simulate" a lowered look... isn't quite gonna work.

Just my opinion.. but when looking at the car from the side, dead on square, no amount of bringing the wheel out is going to envoke this visual trick. I do think, though, that it would work visually from all the other viewing angles. Let's call it, 3 out of 4. Not bad.

So I'm thinking that for this to really work, the car will have to be lowered slightly (which I'm trying to avoid), and then add the wheel spacers.

I just read a tech article piece in Bimmer where Mike Miller said that there are three differenct thicknesses of spring perch rubber pads available for the E36. About 5mm difference between each of the three. All factory parts. Does anybody know if our cars have this option, or perhaps if the 3 series uses the same ones we do?

He had brought it up, because the guy writing in was asking if it was possible to lower his 3 series a half inch. Mike's response was that no after market spring kit would do that (little), but, that the guy had the option available of replacing the spring pads with shorter ones.

A half to three quarters of an inch. That's all I'm after as well. Has anybody tried this spring pad replacement trick?

Lastly, would a half inch of lowering make the rear negative camber tire wear thing worse? (seems too small of an amount to effect it).

Thanks folks.

Yes we do have 3 sizes.

5mm
7.5mm
10mm - stock

I am running that 5mm with my TCK setup right now.

FYI, looks like there's also a 15MM

obviously doesn't have relevance here (being that T wants to lower the car), but just thought i'd throw that in

oooo... cool. Good news.

Thought of three other questions:

- Would there be any issues with the 5mm pad providing juuuust enough extra play, that the springs could fall out or dislodge? Like.. when lifting the car, or, in all seriousness.. I've launched her off of the ground ( a little) before ( a reeeaallly cool / fun road in the western Nevada desert).

- Why did BMW provide other sizes than the stock 10mm? Very interesting.

- Novice dumb-a shock question of the year. I get the impression that some shocks (ok.. Bilssteins are the ones I was thinking of) have a "zone" that they like to be in. The piston. Like, they vary the thickness of the piston as is passes through the valving, in order to fine tune ride quality (when cruising along), vs. cranking a turn, which would move the piston past the "mellower" part of the valve. I know they make a sport shock for non-lowered cars, and an HD shock for lowered cars. Sooo... me dropping the car by 5mm, is that going to goof up the valving on the shocks? I have stock shocks right now.

Tanks.

Dropping it by 5mm won't be a problem with the stock shocks. Back to the not wanting to drop it, though. Why not? These cars respond very well to lower slightly stiffer suspension. That way you get the look and all the handling/ride advantages to boot!

I have lowered my car with HR and I currently have the smallest perch. Car sits down a 1/2 inch lower in rear, so I bought the 15mm perch's from turner. They go in today and they should raise the car the 1/2 in I need.

I would be happy to send you the used ones and you can give it a shot
