Well here is the latest in the long line of exhaust problems I have had. Somebody really screwed up on the Supersprint system for the 3.0 Z3. My dad and I spent several hours working on this last night and several more this morning trying to figure out how it could fit. I realize we are not experts on exhaust systems but you would think that between the two of us (My dad has been a mechanical engineer for the past 30+ years) we would be able to figure out a "bolt on system". I have to wait until Monday to try to find someone who has actually installed this system and is familiar with it (I have a feeling this may be tough). Here is the set up laid out on the floor indicating the problems: Key Area #1 Additional notes: In Key Area #1, The stock pipes make a bend which prevents a cut where the SS wants it to be. The cut must be made approximately 3" toward the front of the car from where the SS points are (indicated in the pic by the blue line drawn on the connector). Unfortunately, even if we are able to get around this problem, there is still the problem of the 15 degree angle on the end of the pipes. |

If I understand your comments and the annotations on the photos, the number of different issues with this exhaust system is unbelievable. Are you sure you got the right part?
Also, if I understand correctly, Supersprint is an Italian company. Was the system developed in Europe or in the US? If in Europe, is there a chance that the Euro-spec cars are different than the US-spec cars?
I'd thought the Supersprints were a real bolt-on system... other people with 2.8's indicated that some minor adjustments were needed for the hangers, but that's about it.
Keep us posted!

Dave, For the 3.0 there are 2 options, DTM [PN: 787 866] and Straight Tips [PN: 787 806]. That is it. They "require" the connector pipe [PN 787 813] (15 degree off piece) as well. I am officially a distributor for Supersprint now and verified the part number twice (My contact at Supersprint NA also verified what car the system was going on as well as the part numbers). Needless to say, this was not a good way to start a relationship with a company.
I'm not sure if the exhaust systems are differnt between US and Euro markets. Supersprint would have had to verify this wouldn't they?
I will keep this thread updated as I learn more.
Has anyone with an M or another Supersprint system had anything like this happen?

Randy Forbes has the SuperSprint on his M. I have a set waiting for my garage to be finished to install them. But due to my travel, it will be a couple of months before I get around to the install.
I have never heard of any problems with them on Ms, or any other Z for that matter.

At this point, I think I did get the wrong part(s). I don't think the muffler is wrong (despite the hangers), but the connector pipes must be wrong. Perhaps the they were packaged wrong? All documentation that came with the system indicates I got the right parts.

Andy, Terry is right, I have now had the SS on both of our M Rdstrs. I have to say that it fit perfectly on both cars. The Eisenmann, while it did fit okay, was much more trouble to install & fine tune the fit than the SS was (on either car).
Hope that you get yours worked out soon!
