 5th M Coupe Accident in January

It looks like January was a real bad month for our beloved M Coupes. Last Friday I hit a Dodge Ram while trying to avoid a rear end hit. The trailer hitch kinda went through everything above the bumper. Insurance so far has come up with a $10K estimate, but I have few questions for you guys. The engine lost all its oil and antifreeze but only ran for a few seconds in this state.
Is there anything it particular I should look for? The thermostat housing was crushed and the radiator was pushed back to the timing cover. Doesn't look like any frame damage. The pics below are not for the faint of heart.

///Mad I feel your pain.

Thanks for your help,

Jay

I hope you are okay. Too bad about the car. I would think that there would be no problem with the coolant or oil. A few seconds was not long enough for the car to become overheated right? Also, when you get your oil changed at the dealer isn’t there a short time of oil “starvation” since they install a dry filter and it takes a little time to get wet before sending oil to the engine. Anyway, the engine was warm and had some oil on all the parts so I would think it would be no problem. Good luck with the repair…

Thanks for the concern Wingboot. I walked away with a lil touch of whiplash, other than that I'm fine. The dodge in question was unharmed.

I rubbed some tires at lime Rock 3 years ago at a trsck day. What else but a guy running in the red group with a hopped up late 70's mustang that started dripping fluids on the track. Few off us went off at west bend...ouch

I guess that sort of thing can't be avoided, especialy when yu are out there with some later model cars. But even newer ones can spring a leak I guess.

Back to my point- I had $10k worth of damage and I barely touched the tires. Thankfully it was not armco. Car was put back together and its a 100%.

Where you take your car is critical. I am fortunate to live 3 mile from the BMW NA headquarters in NJ and I called them to find out where they repair thier corporate demo's that the reps bang up before they go to the dealers.

These cars are solid. If the frame is straight- everything else can be put back 100%.
Spend time to find the right shop. Little things like replacing al the original stickers in the engine compartment- matching paint inside the car as well as out side etc...

Good luck and get that baby back on the road

Cool. I just LOVE how trucks and SUV bumpers don't line up with car bumpers. This may be the best thing about the prevalence of trucks/SUVs as passenger cars, even though they are not classified as passenger cars for the purposes of CAFE or safety or weight regulations.

Hell, in GA, pick-up trucks and SUVs don't even have to wear seat belts.

As long as the trailer hitch stays out of your skull, it's all good.
